Mindfulness  Courses and Events in 2018

MBSR stands for Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. It is a course that has been well-tried and researched since the programme was first devised by Jon Kabat-Zinn and colleagues back in 1979. The  8 week programme gradually introduces different mindfulness practices with the chance to share our direct experience of these with other group participants, in a safe and calm space.

Experiencing stress and anxiety is a common human experience, thus the course is suitable for anyone who wants to find a way of working with this “fact of life”. By increasing our awareness of sensations in the body, as well as of the thought processes that contribute to stress and tension and take us away from a fuller awareness of the present moment, we find that not only is our relationship to stressful events or feelings fundamentally changed for the better, but that our ability to enjoy our lives, moment by moment, increases.

Mindfulness can also be very helpful for anyone experiencing particular  problems like chronic pain, more severe anxiety, health issues like high blood pressure or heart disease, to name a few. See the page on Mindfulness Evidence and Research for more in depth information.

If you’re interested in looking into this further, below is a list of courses and events. There are introductory events, details of the 8 Week MBSR Courses through the year, one to one sessions and finally events for people who’ve already done the 8 week course and want to maintain or go further with their mindfulness practice.

To book on one of the 8 week courses listed below, the first step is to fill in the contact form at the bottom of the page. You can also pay a deposit of £50 to secure a place on the course via PayPal.  A booking form will then be sent out to you and we will also arrange a phone call to discuss what’s involved in doing the course and to answer any questions you might have.  The contact form can be used for more general enquiries as well.


I run regular Mindfulness Taster sessions offering the chance to explore what mindfulness is all about and try out some of the main practices. Check back here for the next date to be announced shortly.

ONE TO ONE LEARNING                                                                     

This is a further option for those who prefer this way of learning or are unable to make a regular group session. The one to one sessions are delivered by Skype or in some circumstances within your own home. Couples or small groups of friends can also be accommodated. Contact me on the form below for details of costs and more information.


One day workshops and retreats are arranged from time to time focusing in more depth on particular aspects of mindfulness practice. Graduates are also able to attend the regular mindfulness retreat days held as part of the MBSR course about 3 to 4 times each year. In addition there are the monthly practice sessions described below.

Monthly Mindfulness Top Up Sessions 

For those who have completed the 8 week course (whether with The Mindful Place or another teacher) or who have prior experience of mindfulness meditation.

These are held on the 3rd Monday  of each month from 7.30pm to 9pm, see dates below:

Mindfulness Live stream Practice Sessions

There are regular live stream mindfulness sessions held on YouTube on The Mindful Place channel. These are usually on a Monday evening at 8pm. If you’d like to be kept informed of when these take place, do fill out the contact form below.

Mindfulness Day Retreats and Other One-off Events

Suitable for anyone who’s done the 8 week MBSR or MBCT course or who has an established meditation practice.

No further day retreats or one-off events are to held in 2017. Please do check back here soon or fill out the contact form below to be informed when the 2018 dates are posted.
